"Silver's Spotlight" : Zach Kovell

This week's Silver's Spotlight highlights Zach Kovell.

As we inch closer to WPIAL playoffs, our player spotlight continues to showcase a player who we believe is one of the top competitors in Western, PA! Zach Kovell was an easy pick, a three-year CJ2K player who dominates the blacktop on every occasion.

Kovell has had an amazing career at Hopewell Area High School, especially this senior season averaging 16ppg, 3apg, and 1.3spg. Zach has proven all four years to be a scorer, hence the picture above! Zach scored his 1,000pt in January against Freedom. This is a milestone that we know Zach worked his butt off to achieve.

Don't let Hopewell's conference record deceive you. Zach and his squad have been a force for just about every team they have squared off with. Being in Section 2 in 4A was a very tough task this Winter, but we can assure you Zach never took his foot off the gas.

Zach will play his final basketball game as a Hopewell Viking tomorrow (2/7) at home vs Ambridge. Something tells us he will go out with a bang.

We asked Zach Kovell a few questions to highlight her basketball career.

What your senior season has meant to you and what are your personal goals?

"My senior season has meant a lot, trying to give the freshman a good start to their high school basketball careers and helping my teammates to improve everyday. A personal goal is to help my teammates enjoy the sport of basketball."

What are your current plans after graduation?

"I plan on running track and field and studying Secondary Education for Mathematics at a currently undecided school."

Why have you played several years in the CJ2K?

"The league helps bring players from all over into one formal league with an atmosphere that can't be beat. The competition is always top notch."
