As we begin recognizing stellar talent in the Western, PA area, it only felt right to pick the WPIAL's current leading scorer.

Rowan Carmichael is the man. He has been for four straight years now at Avonworth. Remember when he was a freshman knocking down threes at the Peterson Events Center? Now he is absolutely dominating 4A, averaging nearly 40ppg.

Carmichael is the player every coach dreams of - stellar teammate, extremely coachable, freak athlete. Oh, and most importantly, humble. You would not know he is Avonworth's all-time leading scorer if you met him. On Friday, Rowan broke 2,000 career points. That has been done less than 40 times in WPIAL history.

Avonworth is currently atop Section 2 in 4A, sitting at a perfect 6-0. These wins have not come easy, but it definitely helps when you have a scorer like #2. Expect these guys to fight hard this second half of play, fighting for a very diffiicult #1 seed in 4A come playoffs.

Carmichael in the CJ2K League

How did we get so lucky to have hosted Rowan for 3 years in a Summer League? Rowan has become one of the greatest players to have come through our organization doing exactly what everyone knows him for: putting it all out on the court. Carmichael led his 2023 Showtime squad to a championship and earned himself Finals MVP. The same day, he won the 3pt contest taking home a second crown.

Last Summer, he put his team on his back averaging nearly 30ppg. Rowan has been a walking highlight reel, pulling up from feet behind the line one play - dunking on someone the next.

What your senior season has meant to you and what are your team and personal goals?

"This senior season is very special to me because I get to play with all of the kids I have grown up with again. We have a very special connection and the main goal is always about us as a whole. We all want one thing and that is a Section, Wpial and State Championship. My personal goal is to be all-state and Player of the Year."

What are your current plans after graduation?

"I would like to play college basketball after high school."

Why have you played several years in the CJ2K?

"I have played multiple years in the CJ2K because it’s a fun way to get outside with friends across the WPIAL and hoop!"

Needless to say, we are big fans of #2 ! We wish the best of luck to Rowan and the Lopes as they continue their journey to the section title, and hopefully it doesn't stop there.

It's Showtime, Rowan!
